I just wanted to get some opinions...I started my nursing career on the floor then transitioned to NICU. I personally feel like every nurse should have at least one year of working on the floor before transitioning to an ICU. Don't get me wrong, I love the ICU, but the time management and assessment skills you get from med-surg really help. You also get a huge amount of exposure to lots of different disease states/conditions (depending on your unit). I really think it helped when I made the transition to ICU, in fact I can't imagine making the transition without it. Thoughts??
