    Default Is there a difference?

I have started looking to buy some of my books for school and have noticed that some have the "book title" and others say "handbook for..the same book title". EX; Nurse Anesthesia vs Handbook for Nurse Anesthesia. They have the same cover. Does one just have a hard cover and the other paperback but otherwise they are the same book? Just want to make sure before I buy.

Be careful as some "handbooks" are actually shortened versions of the full text.

    Good luck!

    Hi

The handbook is a quick reference book with bare bones highlights. The textbook is a the full text.

The handbooks are good to throw in your clinical bag for quick reference, or for when you want to do some light studying without opening the 'big book'. Just look at them closely, some are not as good as others. Good handbooks to own: Mass General Handbook of Anesthesia, Barash Handbook of Clinical Anesthesia, Oxford American Handbook of Anesthesia(this is a great careplan and reference book). Good Luck.

I barely had enough time to study the notes and read the chapters out of the handbooks. If I didn't understand the topic or needed further clarification, I went to the full text. I never did understand how students had time to do all of the reading assignments from the full text.

Im not sure what you mean by 'internatinal version' but make sure its an American version. The oxford has an english version that is not the same. Things done in England are different than here.

I know that in non-anethesia textbooks the international edition is just the publishers copies made to circulate around the world. They are usually paperback, cheaper, and contain the same information for all intensive purposes. I used a nursing managment international edition this semester. It had the same page numbers and everything. As far as anthesia textbooks go it might have different protocols representative of the countries' practices. Good luck. www.half.com is where i get all of my textbooks. It is owned by Ebay so it is legit. Also it is a GREAT place to sell textbooks you might not need anymore.
