Just wondering what the format is during your didactic portion of your programs. In other words, are your lectures pretty straight forward with Power Point slides, or do the teachers go above and beyond and put their own perspective in to help explain it? How about grading, are there assignments or only exams and a final? Are finals comprehensive?

Are most of the connections and "Ah HA!" moments made on your own while you are reading, or does lecture really make a big impact? I ask because I've got a friend in Med school and he claimed that he learned more efficiently by skipping the lectures (wasted time as he put it) and going to the library to learn it all on his own...Never made any sense to me.

I realize every program is unique, I'd just like to get a feel for how a focused/specialized graduate program is structured in general. I'm all for putting in the work on my end, but with tuition like it is I better be getting someone competent and concerned enough to put an effort into teaching me.
