Horrible peripheral access, needs very reliable access for potentially complicated case. Maybe older and more frail, only other alternative is a central line, but that's pretty overkill in a lot of cases, in addition to the albeit small but very present risk of PTX and line sepsis.

I'd go to a deep upper arm basilic or cephalic vein with a 5-7 cm femoral artery catheter kit and ultrasound.

I picked that up somewhere, but I didn't know these lines had a name... Midlines. Sounds like they're good for more than in a pinch for the OR...
