I brought a TAH patient to pacu today who was on the verge of apnea - she would breath with some reminders... She had received a fair bit of Dilaudid. I didn't want to give narcan. I asked for nubain and gave it. Our pacu staff was not familiar with it and asked a few questions. I explained it will reverse the apnea from the Dilaudid without reversing the analgesia. One question was does nubain cause apnea. I have never seen apnea from nubain. Of course I have never given much nubain. Why don't we use more of it?
