Say a nurse is taking care of what has become a 35 kg, 5 foot 90 year old with metastatic colon ca. Admitted purely for hospice care. Hgb 7. Still taking some PO, pain in control. Awake and alert albeit very weak.

She wants to put some O2 for on the patient for comfort but has been told by the RT that there is no point as room air sat is 96%.

Futility issues aside, who has the physiologically defensible position, the RN or the RT and why?
