    Default Brevital

So, we are again hit with a propofol shortage. We currently still have enough for GA's--we get two 10cc syringes of the white stuff. However, no TIVA cases (unless MH hx) or MAC cases for the time being. I have no begun using a ton more remi but I'm interested in people's thoughts on Brevital. Never used it once and the early opinions I've gotten seem very mixed, especially for MAC cases. Nausea, tremor movements, long wakeups in day surgery, etc.

Are people using this at all, and if so, what doses for MACs and what are your thoughts?

So I've used it a bit and ran it like propofol. Started at 100 mcg/kg/min, once sleepy turned down to 5o-75 and ran rest of case (for macs). Pts did fine, couple with the myoclonus movements got a snarl from surgeon but overall intraop fine. No ponv(though I do treat everyone fairly aggressive). I will say with macs 2-3 hrs--PTs were OUT in day surgery-not sure how much longer dc would be vs propofol.
Overall, I want my prop back!
