Since no one seems to want to take a stab at the G to GJ tube question, here's an easier one. I get a call this morning from one of the OR nurses. Family practice doc is doing a colonoscope (he generally doesn't ask for anesthesia to be involved). The nurse has given 10mg of versed, 200 mcg of fentanyl, and says the pt is wide awake and shows no signs of slowing down. I say OK, I'll be there in a few minutes. I re-fill my coffee cup, go out and scrape the frost off my truck, drive in expecting to get a call that after a few minutes the pt is drifting off, and they've started the scope. No such luck. I get to the OR, the nurses have hauled my cart into the procedure room, the pt is wide awake, completely lucid. Pt is 56 yo, owns a local bar, takes daily xanax, nightly ambien, and admits to 3-4 drinks 4 nights a week. Small town, the OR nurse tells me I can safely double everything I'm told by this pt. Otherwise healthy, 5'9", 170#, no allergies.
