I suppose this counts as a clinical question. I managed to get myself roped into this committee that is working on the issue of handoff/report between anesthesia providers, as well as between anesthesia and non-anesthesia providers. I believe that this is related to a recommendation from some organization (maybe TJC?) that the SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation) format be utilized for improving communication, but I don't yet have a source for that. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you have a standard format for handoff between providers? Do you have a form or checklist to facilitate the standardized communication of patient-related information? Thanks in advance for any help!
