Obviously, the primary responsibility of most CRNA's is to provide general anesthesia during surgery as well as all the pre- and post- assessment and planning in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

But what else do CRNA's do? Are there jobs readily available in outpatient pain clinics? Critical care/ED settings? Primary administrative/research positions? Positions where you might be able to do a little of everything? How do these positions compare - in terms of pay and opportunity - to the more traditional "OR jobs"?

On another websites' forum I recently read a post by a CRNA who said that he was assigned to "emergency anesthesia" at the large tertiary facility where he worked, and it got me wondering what else might be out there. Is that type of thing common?

Just wonderin'

Thanks!
