One loan I was checking into when needing more funds was PNC solutions loan for students in graduate health professions program. It allows you to borrow above cost of attendance, obiously this would be at a higher interest rate and it is also variable so make sure you pay it off quickly when done and only borrow what you need. My school also provides a way to increase COA based on your living expenses such as mortgage and utilities, but I do not know if that is an option everywhere. Just some thoughts for you. Hope it works out.

Wow! Thanks for that info. After countless hours of searching, I have not been able to find any student loans that do not require school certification. PNC does not mention COA like everywhere else, so maybe they wont need certification. I will call them!

my school screwed me royally for my last semester of school. they would only certify 8500.00, even though i was approved for grad plus loan over and above. it amazes me how they won't "allow" you to "borrow" money that you're going to repay!! what a crock. I have THREE teens, a mortgage, a car payment, and I am a single, custodial father who receives no child support- never have. talk about a hose job!!

Jofar, how did you manage? have you finished the semester? I feel the same way. It really sucks that they have so much control. They flat out told me that it is not their responsibility to make sure my kids eat or my mortage gets paid! Problem is...these things are obviously necessary for me to be able to go to school, so why can't I borrow the money? Urgh!

I haven't managed yet. I will be out of money by the middle of october. I am still trying to find a way to borrow another 12-15,000 to stay me through january. on top of trying to study for comps while attending clinical 40 hours a week.

Oh, and the PNC solutions loan does not allow you to borrow above the COA. it has to be certified by the school just like any other loan. I just spoke with their customer service person.

I sent Wells Fargo an email and they responded that they do have non-certified loans, but they fed me that whole line of mumbo jumbo about applying for federal aid first, spending only what I need, etc. I haven't called them yet, but I am guessing it is probably the same as PNC in that they will not lend beyond COA. I just can't believe there is no where willing to lend money to grad students....do they not realize most of us had lives and bills coming into school? It just makes no sense at all!
