  • AANA: Peripheral Nerve Block and Ultrasound Guidance Workshop

ANNOUNCING A NEW EXCITING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU

The AANA is pleased to announce the creation of a NEW 2-day seminar. This excitingprogram is designed to guide you through the basics of Peripheral Nerve Blocks on thefirst day, and then builds upon that material to provide Ultrasound Guidance Trainingthe following day. Your tuition includes two full color manuals for future reference, a beautiful venue with continental breakfast each day, and lecture and hands-on trainingby experienced CRNAs who practice what they teach. While each day of our 2-day course can be taken separately, attending both days provides for the most comprehensive educational experience to translate what you learn into your daily practice.

Day-1 focuses on the peripheral nerve blocks and will comprehensively cover contentessential for today's current practice. This complete 8-hour course includes:

    • The review of local anesthetic mechanisms
    • Nerve physiology, and stimulation guidance for localization
    • Indications, techniques and complications for approximately 20 different blocks!

Learn important information from an active regional anesthesia practitioner on how tomake your blocks more successful and how to gain the exposure necessary to makeyour practice more self-reliant and rewarding. This peripheral nerve block course will beuseful for both beginning practitioners as well as experienced providers and the agendais packed with real patient images and nerve stimulation videos. This course will coverperipheral nerve blocks, anatomy, techniques and complications in detail.

Day-2 will build on the material from the peripheral nerve block course (on Day-1).This 6-hour course will comprehensively cover ultrasound guidance for the anesthesiaprovider, and will cover techniques such as:

    • Ultrasound imaging and techniques for peripheral line, central line, andarterial line placement
    • Ten of the common regional blocks
    • Indwelling catheter placement
    • Additional imaging and techniques such as the use of ultrasound to detectpneumothorax (content not typically found in other ultrasound courses).

The morning is composed of a comprehensive didactic component covering the basicsof ultrasound physics, terminology in addition to techniques to produce and interprethigh quality imaging. Comprehensive instruction including the placement of regionalblocks and perineural catheter placement is included. Participants are then broken-outinto small groups and paired with specially trained and experienced course faculty whoprovide a friendly HANDS-ON ultrasound workshop. Each participant will be able topractice performing every scan discussed in the morning lecture as well as be able to practice actual needle guidance at a state-of-the-art phantom station. We are pleased to make available for your use in this workshop the Blue Phantom as the medium forthe needle practice station. This trainer allows for accurate biological practice withouthaving to expose participants to biological materials. Anatomic targets are implantedinto this safe gel-like material providing accurate simulation of in-plane and out-of-planeneedle placement. This phantom can be handled without the worry of diseasetransmission potentially associated from other modalities.

Experienced educators complement these two well designed meetings to bringparticipants one of the most exciting additions to AANA educational workshops. Pleaseregister soon as space is limited and expected to fill well in advance of the programdates!
