  • Law Suit Filed Against Collier Anesthesia and Wolford College Nurse Anesthesia Program

Weldon & Rothman, PL has filed a collective action lawsuit on behalf of nurse anesthetist interns against Collier Anesthesia and Wolford College asserting minimum wage and overtime violations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The law firm of Weldon & Rothman, PL have filed suit in federal court against Collier Anesthesia and Wolford College located in Naples, Florida. The complaint alleges that Collier Anesthesia and Wolford College had an interrelation of operations, centralized control of labor relations, common management, and common ownership or financial control. The complaint alleges two violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”) in that Collier Anesthesia/Wolford College failed to pay its interns pursuant to the federal minimum wage and failed to pay its interns overtime who regularly worked over forty (40) hours per week.

The lawsuit goes on to allege that the interns performed productive and routine work of Collier Anesthesia. The suit further alleges that Collier Anesthesia is dependent upon the work of the interns for its normal daily operations and that the interns worked for the Defendants’ benefit. The interns were allegedly used as substitutes for regular workers and/or to augment its existing workforce during specific time periods. It is alleged that if Collier Anesthesia did not use interns, they would need to hire additional employees to perform the work of the interns.

That post was a joke to make that one poster laugh like the one about the oath. Don't worry I will not do it anymore since no one likes it here.

So let me get this straight. There are "students/SNRA's" in this field who must have a certain amount of clinical experience "credits" to be able to graduate correct?

What I don't know is how many credit hours are required. And how long does it take to obtain them. Weeks, months, years? Maybe someone can answer that for me?

Lets say a student reaches their credit hour requirement 3/4's of the way through their schooling term. Why do they continue to do these clinicals if they reached their required amount? Why can't they just stay home and wait for graduation?

And are these requirements a national standard for this type of education? Or do different schools have different requirements to pass the class?

Please fill in the blanks and educate me on this subject.

      TIA

Ok fine I will just leave then. It's obvious most of this board is one sided. And makes perfect sense why everyone is on the defense here.

I will go find a board with less insecurities and ask my questions. Anyone who has nothing to hide should not have a problem answering general public knowledge questions.

I even tried to joke around. But got knocked for that too. Talk about up tight. Wow.

Thanks to the ones who were kind.

      Good luck with your schooling.

Ps: It was never about a certain person or lawsuit. I am doing research to educate myself.

That's because I'm full of wicked wiles.

I will be happy to answer all of your questions, and I am most qualified to do so. But I can't stop wondering what is your particular interest in the Wolford/Collier case?

If you are honestly trying to educate yourself, please start with basic English. Learn how to write a cogent sentence. Then, mix in a little spell check and grammar work, and you might pass high school. Honestly, I have received letters from the Oil Minister of Nigeria that are better written.

Or he could try not hurling insults and accusations at everyone. That usually helps in my pursuit of information.

Just great guys, strong work. Now we're going to start getting nasty-grams and irate posts from the Oil Minister of Nigeria for our insensitivity and hurtful behavior regarding his/her use of the english language.

No, he won't care. He will have his representative bring us the keys to the condo just as soon as he receives our bank draft deposit and verifies our social security numbers.

Those Nigerian Oil Ministers are so sweet and understanding. That's what we need a little more of around here.

By the way, I've got this great little piece of land down in Florida. . .

So all this legal maneuvering and justification that (for me) seems to whitewash/overlook the basic fact - which is probably the real personal rub - is the demand for payment for services rendered as a student. Money fixes everything. There is no noble or altruistic goal in fixing the system. Its all about getting ones "fair" (subjective) share...
At the same time, even IF "Educational Malpractice" WAS a valid cause of action in court, the remedy would ALSO be monetary. More often than not money is THE remedy for being wronged and ALSO the great motivator in producing correction of behavior.

Doing research to educate yourself? REALLY? Hmmm....let's look at your opening comment in pursuit of your 'research':

Sounds like some of you are confused with the word entitlement.

You are entitled to nothing. Did you not know the rules before signing up?

And now you complain? Unreal....... If this were the military you would have been gone at "I........"

Blah Blah Blah. Me Me ME.

News flash: re read the oath you took when you became a health professional. It's not about you. Its about the people you are supposed to look out for.

The ones complaining on here have no buisiness in this field. And are a discrace to the ones who hold their profession in the highest regard.

No wonder no one wants a student to practice on them. Who would if your mindset is ME ME ME?

Remeber your track will always be your track record. And that is what seperates you from the decent people trying to do good in this world. By helping others.

      Grow up gossip preachers.

And it only got more empty headed from there...
