Hello all I am interested in learning more about the actual science of anesthesia and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book to start out with to learn the basics. I have searched on Amazon but only textbook sized books have appeared. I am just looking for a summary more than a in depth piece of reading material. Thanks in advance.

the science behind what? the pharm and phys of anesthetics? the practice of anesthesia in general? effects of anesthesia on patients? "anesthesia" is broad, so maybe narrow it down a bit?

I'm not quite sure what you are looking for when you said only "textbook sized books appeared". Most books available are going to be of this nature. The only non-textbook kind of book is "Watchful Care", but it is not science related, more of a history of the profession. Otherwise, I would recommend "Basics of Anesthesia" by Stoelting. It is a well designed book with short informative chapters. I start school in May and began reading it recently. So far I think it is a good overview of all things related to anesthesia.

There are no short anesthesia books. I would try Basics of Anesthesia by Stoelting That is closest thing I can think of to a small summary type anesthesia book.

Sorry about the confusion ether. I guess I meant what the other posters suggested. What I meant by textbook sized books was I dont plan on studying yet, just learning. Thanks for the insight.
