I am new to the forum and wanted to know if anyone had insight on the interview process for univ. of maryland. I am concerned with my sciences from undergraduate studies, but have 8 years of clinical experience in sicu at level one trauma center. I made a c or better.. very nervous and if i get a chance at a interview spot, I want to say all the right things... Thanks for any advice....

depends on what courses. What classes are you talking about specifically? Did you get an interview letter yet?

Hi nurseamy! I applied to University of Maryland as well. Have you heard anything yet? I wish you the best of luck!
This is my first post on here and I've found this forum to be very informative.

I too am waiting. You can log on to the "application status" and see if anything is happening. Nothing is happening. Anyway, I am finding out that the application process is a test in patience.

Take care and good luck!

I'm from DC area. A lot of my friend just graduated from maryland. Its only two schools in the DC/MD area. GTown and UMD. Gtown has about 50 slots from what I was last told because the military students are no longer there. Maryland only has 25 seats and they have about 300 applicants apply. One of my mentors works on the admission board and he told me that an applicant must do something to stand out because everyone looks the same on paper (GPA/experience). So you must shine during your personal statement. Go introduce yourself to some people (shake hands and ask questions). They will remember you if you get selected to interview. I think they start the interview process in january as they did last year. Last year, my friend (he is an SRNA there) said they interviewed 80-100 applicants in 5-10 days!!! So make sure you stand out of the crowd during your interview.

Have heard this year they will only interview 60 for 30 slots. 200+ applicants. Interview letters will go out after xmas and decision letters will be emailed in early Feb. At least that was the time frame last year.

Good luck

Gatlord

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have been diligently checking my app status everyday since the deadline. Now I know I should just chill out and check back after the first of the year.

Thanks!

Is it the decision about offering interviews or the decision to admit who?

I received an interview offer from Univ of MD today. They're interviewing over 6 days in early-mid January. Looks likes 120 interview spots, not sure how many they're going to take. Good luck to everyone. Brian

Have you decided what day you'd like to go in? Anyone else going in for the interview?

I received the invite as well!!!! So excited I could hardly hold still. I chose to interview on the 13th-morning session. I want to have plenty of time to smarten myself up...hehe...if that makes any sense.

Does anyone know what sort of questions they ask you? I want to come fully prepared---I also HATE surprises...so any insight would be much appreciated.

I'm already making lists of things that I need to do to prepare. I'm going to drive myself crazy i think....would anyone else like to come along for the ride?

Hey Ivanasrna how was your interview last week?

I hope they are not too intimidating. I interview tomorrow and I'm so nervous already---my heart races at the thought of it!

Hey!
It wasn't too bad. There was 5 people when I was there. They were very nice and friendly. Good luck! It won't be too hard! :)

Has anyone gotten a letter yet???

WillBeCRNA
01-22-2010, 04:49 AM
No. Did you?

How long was your interview? Just curious because I heard some different stories. Some people interviewed a way longer than 15 min and some people less than 15 min, so wondering if that affects their decision.

Annette
01-22-2010, 06:54 AM
I haven't heard anything either. My interview lasted approx 15min as well. The lady who went before me took only like 5 minutes though! She was very confident about it anyway.

Lets keep our fingers crossed!

Hi Annette,
When was your interview? I think interview toward the beginning had less people (like 6th and 7th), so the more time there than later interviews. I think I am over-reading at this point. Any inputs are welcomed so we can keep each other busy while we hear from them!

ivanasrn
01-22-2010, 12:01 PM
When I was there (1st day) we had only 7 people as well. Most interviews were 20 - 30 min long. When I was in I am not even sure how long it was, but it felt like forever. They said last year they emailed everyone the next day. I have no fingernails left!

Annette
01-22-2010, 12:27 PM
I interviewed on the 13th. I think there may have only been 8 or 9 of us there. I believe they said we would all know by February sometime.....not soon enough!

Did you guys see magazines in front of you when you walked into the room for your interview? What were your reaction or what did you do? I just found out that they were testing you!

ivanasrn

hehe, pick them up to organize :)
They are looking for OCD people :)
This is a big week! I can't wait to hear the results!

Although I'm OCD by nature, I probably failed this one because I was too nervous to organize them perfectly. Oh, well! I'm glad that I applied more than one school!

Annette
02-02-2010, 07:08 AM
Well, I picked it all up. There was even a magazine on the chair they asked me to sit in. Pens and markers were everywhere....yep I picked it all up. The whole time Dr. Heindel was looking at me with this amused sort of look on his face.

So were we supposed to pick it up...or just leave it? I wouldn't call myself OCD, but I do like things to be in order.

This wait is horrific. Will we be notified by email, mail, or telephone?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

check your application status on the school of nursing's website. the spot where you originally applied. The decision may have changed from "committee ready" to "Admit Institution".

nrn
02-02-2010, 06:47 PM
if it says "admit institution," does that mean acceptance? it seems obvious...but i'd hate to get all excited and get a rejection email!

ivanasrn
02-02-2010, 07:43 PM
The people who didn't get accepted have rejected status.... so congrats!

fairydust
02-03-2010, 08:12 AM
What does it mean when your DECISION STATUS changes to Please Contact Admission Office....mine doesn't say rejected or admit??? Just curious, I tried contacting them but they put me into someone's voicemail.

ivanasrn

Yes, if your status says admit institution you are in. I spoke to the admission office.

I did. Did they tell you what number on the list your are? I am sure they will be people who accepted offers somewhere else. What day did you interview? I am still wierded out by the whole selection process....

Congrats to everyone that was accepted!! We are in for a gruelling 28 months! ...but I can't wait. I think my husband can though. I have tried repeatedly to explain to him how horrible it is going to be. I'm not sure either one of us is really going to realize it completely until we are in the throws of it all. He is very supportive though so that is very good.
Good luck nyellek...hope to see you in the fall too!
