For all those out there I just thought I would past on the details of the experience.
First of all it was a very nice and clean campus, lab, and buildings. 11 of us met in the Admissions Office at 7:45 and the PD came in and introduced the program and herself. Then had three groups doing interviews so you went in one at a time with one of the groups. I interviewed with the PD and an adjuct facuilty. The questions were:
Why CRNA?
What would you do if the surg. wanted to start a case that you did not feel was safe?
What qualitied did you feel CRNA need to have?
Which of these quailites do you have?
Have you heard of any CRNA politics that are currently out there?
Have you researched the dedication and time commitments?

Very basic and no real clinical questions (drugs, labs, vents, etc.). The PD and those there were VERY nice and it was extremely layed back.

My only problem with the program is that the clinical sites are ALL over: UT, CA, NM and AZ they said that the you'd be away from the valley 40-50% of the time. They do have housing avaliable to live in some free some for a price.

Well Mike I thought I'd update you on what you missed by not applying:P

Hey Jared :)

Truthfully, my personal feeling is i made the right decision by not applying for many reasons.

The PD you met is not the one i met (she was removed from the position).

My issues with that program now that she is gone are the same as yours:

- High tuition
- No hospital affiliations (private without its own hospital)
- Majority of clincal sites are distant and many will cost you for food, living and travel added onto your tuition. While they do have some housing, they dont pay for food or travel.

The campus is AWESOME. Just a beautiful place really. I think things will change in AZ but not for quite some time in the valley.

Good luck!

Actually I found out on Feb 1 that I am an alternate to the program. It was actually just a moral booster than anything esle if I got in. I would still go to the other school I got in. Good Luck.

So did you get a phone call or letter? I have been checking my mail and have been working all week. I guess they would have left a message on my phone if they even called. I will assume the worse. Oh well.

they mailed a letter. i live 40 minutes from the campus so the letter would have gotten to me very quickly.

one of the clinical sites for midwestern is in my hospital, I think that midwestern students could use a lot more peds and regional experience.

WHich hospital are yah at?

Well, MW students wont get paeds and regional in central AZ thats for sure. Its anti-CRNA all throughout the valley except for Del Webb hospital, IHS and the VA

I was also accepted to the Gooding Institute which does not have competing cases with residents. I am now trying to decide between the two schools. Integrated program vs front loaded?

Hey Narcan

My feeling is that if your a Kinesthetic (hands on) and visual learner an integrated program will work better for you. Otherwise, its simply a personal choice.
