I was wondering if any CRNAS/SRNAS were accepted into anesthetist school with a background in a cardiac ICU setting that does not deal with the open heart patients/surgery patients, but mainly the Cath lab/septic/etc cardiac patients? I'm working the latter type of unit and the positions on the surgery unit are few and far between. If anyone has some insight or similar experience, anything will help. Out here in Vegas I really don't have any close contact with CRNAs, and my nursing school at UNLV didn't really help in making contacts for future career decisions in nursing, they were mostly focused on getting you to pass the NCLEX so their pass ratio would be better, so its nice to hear from you guys that I'm on the right track or not.

Sounds like it would be acceptable. As long as you deal with Swans, vasoactive gtts, IABs, ventilators, monitors, etc.

Everybody has their own opinions about what experience makes for the best candidate, but in the end, unless their on the ad com, their advice doesn't mean much. Best bet is always to check with someone at the schools to which you'll be applying, and ask them what they prefer. Good luck!
