Hey, all,

I'd like some cool ideas of how one could use the CRNA schools area on this site. My school doesn't have an active website, and why not this one??? What kind of things are on the website/student sites of those of you who are in or were in programs with really active web sites? Then I'd appreciate if Mike could tell me if the things people answer could be accomplished using this site.

It might really be worth my while to figure out how to do a website for the school.....after all, Mike did this one....probably would take too much time though, since I know nothing about starting websites...but I have till August, and it could be part of a research proposal somehow.....hmmmmmm

Please respond to this request. AND I know there have to be Allegheny Valley graduates and students reading this right now. Where are you and would you please contact me by PM.

Thanks all,

Debbie

Just a couple of thoughts:

1. Curriculum
2. Course descriptions
3. Links
4. Other useful papers and such
5. Calender with important dates

I maintained the website for my class. First I purchased an address (ie-www.crnaclassof2009.com). Then I chose a design. Added buttons & links, etc. It took quite a bit of my personal time to do it. I put up class pics. Helpful files or cheatsheet type stuff members had sent. I recorded the lectures, converted them to mp3 format & uploaded them.

Problems... for what ever reason, CRNA students are very competitive. So... there were 'clicks' who didn't want to share their notes or info. It became a bickering pain in the tookus. My grades also suffered because of it. It was cool for about 3 months. Trust me... it takes WAY more time than you're gonna have to mess with it.

I'd just stick to posting here & worry about school.

All the best,

As the webmistress to several different sites, and a former semi-pro site designer, I can tell you this: If you don't already know how to design and maintain a website, you are going to set yourself up to lose a lot of valuable studying time trying to take on this task once you begin your program. I'm not saying that to discourage you, because I think it's a nice idea, and I did one for my class (http://srnaweb.crnasomeday.com). I'm just warning you about what you may be getting into if you try to set up your own site while preparing to enter this very intensive point of life because I've been doing this for a long time and know how frustrating and time consuming it can be. I've also tried to teach a lot of people to do it, and it's been like teaching pigs to whistle (time consuming for me, and frustrating for the pigs).

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do, & if you need assistance feel free to PM me.

Lou

Lou and Pink,

Whew.....thank you so much for your words of reality and wisdom. I would better spend my time, methinks after reading your replies, taking 2 classes to get them out of the way before starting in August.

But I am going to eventually upload here a copy of my schools' care plan form so I can do them online. And I'd love to do the same with the case tally form. I got an MP4 player with huge memory and a recorder in it to tape classes. Any one who wants tapes of classes can tape them themselves.

I'll refer the class mates to this site.

Might find some easy things to do later.

Thank you again, Mike, for all the work you did/do to create this site. Just be sure to not steal time from school due to admin-ing. I have really explored all the areas open to SRNAs and am totally amazed by what is here.

I'm going to need all the help I can get....

Thanks again,

Deb

Yahoo groups is a fairly easy stress-free way to connect your classmates. Anyone can post whatever and it is by invitation of the moderator so not just anyone can go lurking around. Yahoo maintains all the website stuff. You just set it up.
