You can now get all the skyscape anesthesia apps for the iphone. First download the free iphone skyscape app from the appstore.
Then goto skyscape and buy whatever apps you want for the iphone/itouch. They are local apps not internet ones so they work right on your phone.
Then you get an email with the purchase codes which you plce in your iphone skyscape app and it downlaods the ones you bought.
I bought a few:
Handbook of Clinical Anesthesia, 5th Ed
Labs 360°
Clinical Anesthesia Procedures of the Mass General Hospital, 7th Ed
Sota Omoigui's Anesthesia Drugs Handbook

Rayman,
As an experienced provider do you find that program to be useful even after learning the basics? I wondered after I have been in school for a year or so if I would use a reference like that much....of course I don't know exactly what all that program offers either. Some of those apps are great for the first few months and then they seem useless.

So is ACTc available for the iphone? By looking at their website it doesn't seem to be, but maybe I'm missing something. Just starting to look at the iphone and want to make sure it will run the programs I want. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
~ Jen
P.S. - I guess all this is contingent on actually getting into a program, but what's the harm in looking? Plus it gives me something to do than obsess over my applications/interview! :salook:

Mike (or any iPhone user),
I am not an iPhone kinda guy. But some of my techno savy co-workers are. I looked at the skyscape site and noticed that the iphone apps are "1 yr subscriptions." What is the deal with that?
I know you don't work for skyscape, but am curious. I have Sota, Barash and Mass General for my Treo, but it was a one time download kinda deal. Is skyscape going demand an annual renewal for iPhone folks?
Again, I think skysape offers some great stuff, I'm just curious, should anyone know.

Hey Skee
You are totally correct. Apparently all of skyscapes apps are going to goto a 1 year subscription even thought they are on your device. I was told this would happen with PDAs as well.
Whatever the case, it is currently in effect for the iphone.

Just to clarify, can you use these apps on an itouch? The crazy AT&T rate plans are stopping me from getting an iphone (that and I don't use a cell phone all that much!) Thanks for any info!

Pretty much any application that works on an iPhone will work on an ipod touch but if wireless is needed then it won't work unless you connect to broadband. The skyscape applications that are downloaded to the iphone will work fine as will epocrates but like I said if you want to update them you would have to turn on the wireless and have access to a broadband wireless network. You might could find an older iPhone that will work as well, just seems kinda steep to pay couple hundred bucks just for the touch to use as a PDA unless you need a new ipod as well!!

Well, screw the ipod touch.....I just got a iphone!!! (Birthday present). As much as I hate paying AT&T $70 a month I already love it. Even my hubby loves it, won't let me have it! (He's too busy downloading Terry Tate videos....:pound: )

i'm 3 days into my iphone self gift, and enjoy it! i tried to stay verizon, but just couldn't do it. plus, as an employee of a medical facility, i get 20% off monthly bill. and heck, unlimited data with even the minimum minute plan. way beats verizon here!

I just got my iphone for christmas, and I LOVE it! Very easy and fun to use.
I ended up joining up with my 2 friends on a family plan b/c AT&T is so expensive....I live in Texas but now have a California # because of that. Worth it to save some $$ and have an iphone.
All of the free medical apps have synced perfectly, as well.:beerglass:

Skyscape programs are pretty expensive to need to be renewing a subscription every year. Any idea of the renewal will be cheaper than the original price? Seems a little ridiculous to me. I guess maybe free updates were killing them.

Just an update. Skyscape now offers a "Standard Version" or "Subscription Version" for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Anyone that purchased the Subscription version prior to 15 Feb, 2009 can migrate to the Standard version with some help from Skyscape and paying the difference in price of the two versions.
Visit the website and conduct a search for more info.
Also, ACTc site states iPhone will be supported in Release 4.0 due end of 2009.

after a lott of bad reviews on itunes and a letter from people like myslef, skyscape has dropped the subscription for textbook applications.
It didn't make sense to buy Barash's hand book for $65 a year when new editions only come out every 5 years. you would have paid $300+ before you ever got an upgrade.
I think the paper version is only $50 and doesn't diappear after a year. I am glad they changed to a non subscription version

ATCc is currently developing a software for the iphone/itouch. The beta versions should come out this summer. And the final version hopefully will be out by fall. It's great that it will work on the itouch. I quite frankly am a fan of the iphone but not of AT&T. Unlocking the iphone to use with a different provider (T-mobile only) can be a hassle. So, I received the itouch as a gift, I can deal without emails and save $100.00 month on AT&T. Plus, AT&T 3g network coverage isn't very extensive in small cities, to many dead zones in small areas or you will be surfing the 2g networks the entire time, meaning much slower downloads. Plus the phone tends to roam a lot in small towns, especially if you are a traveler. So before you fork out a lot of money and are tied to a twenty four month contract, think really hard before switching providers. Otherwise you might be excited at first, then be depressed when your forwarded the bill.
For those that want the function of the Iphone, but do not need a phone service with AT&T, it's much cheaper to go with the itouch. It offers everything the iphone does except be a phone. The iphone has been ranked as the best consumer smart-phone to own. However, on the business spectrum the Iphone has not prevailed. One thing is for sure about itouch, it can pretty much do anything the iphone does since they both operate on the same software platform. However, the itouch is slimmer, and sexy looking. Also, most hospitals will have wifi which works with your itouch. So, save your money while in school. I don't know why AT&T has to charge an arm and a leg for everything. typical decent plan: charge $20.00 for unlimited texts? unlimited data $30? you get a plan with 900 mins unlimited nights and weekend that start at 7 = $70. Add taxes to all of this = roughly 145-150 a month. My point is that other providers with much better reception then AT&T do not charge as much.
Then comes the iphone 8g itself. It costs two $200.00, no insurance coverage available, a decent case that might protect it costs $50. Extended care warranty $79.99 or $80 dollars. with taxes you're looking at around $366. sales tax of 10%.
car charger = $30.0
I believe activation fee for AT&T is 75 to 80...
Total out of pocket for the first month = Around $626...
$1800 yr to maintain...
that is my take...

btw, This post is done on my new iPod Touch 16GB! I love it!

well, i don't know who's citing these prices where you are, but your numbers surely don't apply where i'm at.
unlimited data for 30$ - you won't find anything cheaper from other providers
900 min plan? don't know, but i only got the 450 min for 39$/mo, and you get rollover (most end up with 1-2000 min by end of yr.)
as for your purchase price/ext. care numbers, you're off from what i have experienced. i didn't go with ext. care (waste of $ in my mind).
car charger not a must, but nice.
activation fee was waived (b/c of being a hosp. employee/student)
20% monthly discount (as a hosp. employee/student).
monthly expense for me about 82$ (again, this is with unlimited web, 1500 txt for 15$, 450 min).
so, looks like you're estimating on the highest of high end.

Does anyone know of any good anesthesia drug guides for iPhone other than Sota Omoigui's Anesthesia Drugs Handbook? I got online to renew mine because it has already been a year and the price has went up from $45 to $69 and it is still a yearly subscription. I really hate to pay that much but I like to have some sort of reference on my phone. Just wondering if there is any thing out there that compares.

Unless it is different for ipod touch than it is for iPhone, the app won't work after the year's subscription is up unless you renew. I just got a warning a few days ago that if I don't renew in like a week that my app will stop working. I would love to pay ONE price and just keep the
app forever (updated or not) but that doesn't seem to be an option yet and the price last year was like $45 and now it is $69 for the same content!!
But if you know something that I don't....please share!!

For a bit last year they offered a subscription type of purchase, which it sounds like you bought.
" Free new editions included during term of subscription
http://www.skyscape.com/images/PP_OrangeBullet.gif Convenient auto-renewal option for continued use
http://www.skyscape.com/images/PP_OrangeBullet.gif Ongoing phone, chat and email support
http://www.skyscape.com/images/PP_OrangeBullet.gif Device upgrade protection"
Now on the website, they only offer the "Standard" version.
" Free content updates for 12 months (not including new editions)
http://www.skyscape.com/images/PP_OrangeBullet.gif Continued use after 12 months (no updates)
http://www.skyscape.com/images/PP_OrangeBullet.gif 90 days phone support (chat and email ongoing)"
This is from the website two minutes ago.
I think there is a way to switch over. I'd check with their customer service.

Q: Now That Skyscape Sells the Standard Version for the iPhone - Can I transfer from Subscription to Standard?
A: Yes, please see the details/policies below:
You need to contact Skyscape Support to switch your iPhone subscription to the Standard Option registration.
This is a one-time offer for iPhone subscriptions purchased prior to 15 February 2009 (products with new editions do not qualify).
There must be at least 3 months (90 days) left on your subscription.
You will need to pay the difference between the 1 Year Subscription Option price and the Standard Option price.
Once the Standard Serial Number is registered, you are not eligible for the free editon upgrade (unless purchased in the last 30-days) which is available for Subscription Serial Number registrations (new editions which are released during the life of the Subscription Option are provided at no cost).
The Standard Option includes data updates for one year. The year is calculated from the date of your original registration of the Subscription. After the Standard Option expires, the product will continue to be usable, but you will not get either new editions or updates to the data."
I don't know how it will affect you, but at least you know.
