Has anyone heard of (or attended) the Trover Foundation/Murray State University School of Anesthesia? This is one of the schools I am interested in applying to in a few years (b/c of the proximity to home). I haven't been able to find anyone who has even heard of the program. I have no idea what the reputation of this school is. It is located in a fairly rural area and the program focuses on administering anesthesia independently in rural areas.

Hi CD,

I can't give you a ton of info, but the Murray State Program is the only one in the entire state of Kentucky. It's way out in the western part of the state and its been around for quite a while, at least as long as I've been interested in becoming a CRNA.

I think it's fully accredited, and the only complaint I've ever heard is that the clinical sites are very spread out. For example, Morehead is a loonnngggg way from Madisonville.

Hope this helps a little....

Thanks. I live in Tennessee and I was looking to attend a program that wasn't too far away from home. I've visited Madisonville, KY a few times to go to this little outlet that sells $8 jeans.

I've heard the clinical sites for Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia (another program I'm interested in applying to) were also really spread out. So I guess this will have to be something I will have to take into consideration when the time comes.

One of my instructers went to school there. He seems pretty sharp.

What he said. I also have met someone else who attended Murray State, and she spoke very highly of it.

The reason I'm asking is because I know that they have a new anesthesiologist there, and I was wondering what everyone thought of this new person....

PM for name.

I worked with a girl who graduated from there. Can't tell you much about it but she loved it.
Have you considered University of TN in Knoxville, Memphis, or Chattanooga?
I just started at UT Knoxville. Be glad to answer any questions about it.

Hello.....I am not sure where you are located exactly, but I went to Charleston Area Medical Center in WV, the degree is from Marshall University. I really enjoyed the program, and there was no travel to sites out of Charleston. We had three hospitals right there in town within 10 minutes of each other. Check out their website http://www.camcinstitute.org/anesthesia/default.htm

Where in TN? There are schools all over. Arkansas state is close, UT Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia- Nashville, Union University in Jackson (where I am attending), and rumors of another school opening in Northeast TN. I know a bit about each school if you want to ask something specific. I live in Memphis, but drive to Jackson and clinical sites range from Rural to Memphis. They are spread out, but it is do-able.

I know there is a lady with the user name 'sherry' (hope she doesn't mind) that goes there. Maybe she will be brave and reply. :)
