Green ouside theatre

I want to ask you about the policy in your hospitals about wearing green suit ouside theatre. I need everybody to tell me please.

A little bit of everything here. Some hospitals won't let you. Some hospitals make the OR staff furnish their own scrubs.

Here in my hospital we are not allowed to go out with green even in the same building but in other hospital they can.

In most of the hospitals I've worked at we are NOT to leave the building with our scrubs on.

That being said, there are always those seen outside in the smoking area :firedevil: in scrubs (no lab coat or going home in their scrubs as well.

I'll admit that I went home in scrubs one day (a clean set :washing:) but that was because someone broke into my locker, took my clothes under a faucet and put them in the freezer as a joke...ha ha. (I won't say what I did :tapedshut: to deserve such treatment but frozen clothes was the better deal).

Some hospitals are more strict on their scrub policy and it may have to do with rates of infection :ill: seen at each facility or other factors unknown.

Yes.. scrubs outside the OR is a leading cause of infection.. how do I know? The nurse who stops me when I bring a patient to the OR with no hat on and makes me put a hat on the patient, told me.

I am confused about it though,,,, that same patient will be wheeled back for a craniotomy and have their head shaved in the OR. But shes the gate keeper and probably knows a lot more than I do.

don't laugh rjkt,
your comment is pretty much why the ORs are cold.
bugs actually will thrive in a cold OR.
that is why when someone is hypothermic, their risk of infection increases, and actually your immune system weakens in the cold.

This topic is always up for debate......we are supposed to wear a lab coat over scrubs to leave the OR, as long as we stay in the hospital. If we want to go out for, say, a manicure, we are supposed to change out of our scrubs and put our street clothes on and then put clean scrubs back on when we get back to the OR.

I have to laugh at some of the posts about OR nurses reprimand us for stuff like this---i.e., put your cap on, put your mask on when we are opening instruments, etc. I totally agree with the person who said that the ortho surgeon goes whacko at you for something, but has no problem with the rep going to the trunk of his car for a screw or pin----typical.

One of the VERY BEST responses I have ever heard to an OR nurse who reprimanded someone for not wearing shoe covers was, "When they start operating on the floor, then I'll wear shoe covers. Until then, forget it." I thought that was great---because IT MAKES SENSE, doesn't it?

Where I am now, they don't even let people wear shirts under their scrub tops---not even short sleeved ones!! It gets to the point where it becomes ridiculous, because the housekeeping people are not following the CDC guidelines for cleaning. Do you know why? Because I think the recommendation is a 4 minute cleaning with certain chemicals.....and that greatly affects room turnover!! God forbid we wear a tank top under our top, but don't delay the room by cleaning it properly!!

I would wear shoe covers b/c there is a lot of nasty shit dropping on to hospital floors. Fluids, shit, liquid shit, pee, blood, shit mixed with pee, and other stuff left for ur inmagination
