Hi,
I was wondering if anyone with the iphone uses Skyscape. I have a Blackberry and use Skyscape but the books are downloaded to an sd card and always on my phone. It is my understanding with the iphone one can access the books via wi-fi. For anyone that has the phone does this work well?
I will be starting my program in September and thinking about changing to the iphone. Are most of you able to get/use wi-fi in the OR? Is there a potential to harm the patient with cell phones on?
Perhaps with 3G this will eliminate the need for wi-fi.
These would be great references in the OR and if using a wi-fi connection is inappropriate then I will stick with my blackberry that does not need wi-fi or 3G.
Thank you

I too am curious about the new 3G iphone and was about to start a similar thread. I just read about a program called styletap http://www.styletap.com/product_apple.php
that is made to run palm os applications on an iphone which would make accessing these application much much better than relying on WiFi or even 3G. At least those of us that rely on Palm Pilots could take our software with us to the iphone to continue to use.
My concerns are the costs to have an iphone on a students salary:hmmmm2:
What kinds of costs are required...I mean do you HAVE to have the data plan and if not would the phone pretty much suck without it? If I could just add the phone to my current plan and pick up the data plan for like $30 maybe it would be well worth it but I hear the new 3G phone will be more like $40 a month plus the voice package as well.
As far as running application on skyscape...I have heard that it works but even on really good Wifi it seems much slower and way more inconvenient than having it on your phone already!!
I am also interested in getting an iphone. I do not know what 3g, wi-fi, or sd stand for. So, do you think you could start from the basics and tell me what these are and if there is a drug reference program that can be used on the new i-phone.
I am guessing 3g and wi-fi are different types of internet connections?
Also if there is not currently a good way to make the i-phone work, what type of palm and software works well as a reference.
Thanks in advance!

Well...
3G is actually the type of internet connection that is available on the phone, that being said, it has to be available in your area. Most of the larger metropolitan areas have 3G but where I live doesn't. It will still work and have a internet connection but it will just be slower. Wifi is just simply wireless internet meaning you can access the net at any hot spot or via a wireless router if you have high speed internet.
There is supposed to be software available soon that will allow the iphone to run palm os software which should include all of the palm os medical references. Check out this site: www.styletap.com
