What made you become a CRNA?? What helped you decide to take this career path?

When I was fresh out of high school, I wanted to do something science/math related but had very little direction. I went into nursing because I felt it was the only option for me to make a decent living as a young single mom and I wouldn't have to go to school for 4 years. I really can't say I loved nursing and I've been doing it for 15 years. It is full of frustration for me at every turn. From getting a doctor's order to give a cough drop to getting written up because of something ridiculous like not filling out some new audit form. Conversely, I should say that nursing has been very good to me in pay increases, flexible hours, opportunities to learn new things but the autonomy was something I always wanted. I just want to use my brain and really understand things on a deeper level. I feel ecstatic that I have this opportunity to become a CRNA because the ones I have met or networked with I hold in very high regard.
So I guess the short answer is, I'm sick of traditional staff nursing and want to use my skills to a higher degree.
