heheheh

Hospitals should be looking at this and asking "who is cheaper again?" when they are shelling out millions in subsidy.

And yet CRNAs are the ones who get the snide comments about "going into it for the money"... I guess if you have MD behind your name you're "allowed" to make the big cheddar.

Just a tidbit...

I put this chart up in our CRNA office (door opens with a code), and it was promptly taken down by my boss who was 'worried about the housekeeping personnel seeing it'. Frankly... I think it was complete bull$**t. Not like it's top secret knowledge or anything. Burns my butt...

Yeah, that ticks me off. Personally, the last year I worked as a travel nurse I grossed 112K (and I wasn't the highest-earning nurse in my group), so I did NOT go to anesthesia school for the money. Granted, I put in some overtime for that, but I'm working harder in clinical now than I ever did traveling, so what does that tell ya?

There are lots of ways nurses can earn 6 figures - anesthesia school is probably the most difficult choice.

I agree.

Before anesthesia school I owned my own education buisness and taught all over the state besides flying. Had I continued id have made as much as most ACT CRNAs this year.

It isnt about money for me. Its about TRUE autonomy. Ill be working without MDAs or in a non-supervisory practice where they do their room and I do mine. While not everyone has that option, to me true autonomy means making unilateral decisions and being 100% responsible for them. Not calling someone so they can tell me what to do. I had this autonomy in the helicopter, once you have it, you cant go backward b/c its a whole different level of practice.

I cant thank my mentor Jan (yoga), enough for giving me a glimpse into what CRNAs can be (if they so wish). Otherwise I would have quit anesthesia school already. Where I am I often see little difference between CRNAs and ICU nurses except a bit higher pay and added skills (if they are allowed to do them).
