i've know a few people that have taken..
somewhat pretty in depth..
i think you have to have so many clock hours of cardiac hands on, whether it CCU or PACU, etc...
the certification has not all to do with CCRN, PCCN..
it also has to do with being certified already within the cardiac subspecialty(ies), such as CCU, CTS, etc...
are you looking to add to your resume for getting into
anesthesia school?
if so, i'm sure it wouldn't hurt.. not seen by too many applicants from my knowledge..
certifications are always a good thing, provided you get something out of them...

CSC---Is for those who deal directly with the cardiac surgical population
CMC--Is for those that deal more with the medical side of cardiac intensive care.

I have the CSC in addition to the CCRN. I found it much more applicable than the CCRN as well as it it clinically focused - no nursey nurse stuff. When I was interviewing for school, I was the only one of the applicants(about 300) that had received this cert., so I think it did help me stand out, as well as prepare me for interviews.

I also have the CSC. I am the only one on my unit that has it, and I hope it helps me stand out to admissions committees (still waiting to hear!). If I don't get in for this fall, I plan on taking the CMC as well. If you work regularly with cardiac surgery patients, take the CSC - it was much easier than the CCRN (more focused). Best of luck to you!

You must have CCRN before you can sit for CSC or CMC.

incorrect..
it's not a must to have CCRN.
"Candidates for these exams will need to hold a current nationally accredited clinical nursing certification, i.e., accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and/or the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS). Examples of such certifications include but are not limited to: CCRN, CCNS, PCCN, CEN, ACNP, FNP, CPAN, CRNA, CNOR, CRNFA, APRN,BC. "

I didn't mean to imply that the poster should take the CSC instead of the CCRN, just that I found the CSC easier. Good luck to you whatever you do!
