Quick question for anyone willing to answer. A couple of the schools I am applying to say to write the statement "in 500 words or less...". Now, I know they don't actually read how many words there are on the paper, but are they really strict on adhering to that 500 word limit? My paper is about 550 words total, but it still fits on just the front page of the provided form. That's not going to hinder my application, is it?

Mine was much longer than suggested. However, I felt the letter was awesome as is and would lose some of it's effect if shortened so I left it as is. Not sure if it is a negative. 50 over I think is a none issue. IMO.

I would say that noone is counting the words.

However, after talking to admission people a "significantly" long letter often will NOT get read. They feel it shows someone who cannot follow instructions. Not to mention the fact that they have hundreads to read.

I would have to agree with Mcmann. If It was me I would keep it Simple and follow the directions to the T. SRNA's are Type A(opinion). The people you are interviewing might be the same way. See if you can condense to get to the requirement. Good luck
