I've watched a show on this family on TLC before. Their name is the Dugger family and all of their kids' names start with the letter J....Josiah, Jebediah, Jeremiah, you get the picture.....can anyone say "middle child syndrome".....

The shows on this family have fascinated me and my kids in a sick kind of way since they started airing. This family was the first one featured in 'this family has a zillion kids' cable shows. The more recent families are a little more 'normal' than this one. This family is very fundamentalist Christian with a strict doctrine of populating the Earth. They home-church with a few other couples who share the 'populate the earth' philosophy. All the kids are home-schooled. The girls and their mom always wear dresses. The females maintain long hair. They always seem to have matching outfits. The mother is SO cheery it is really scary. Organized, never seems to lose it. I hate to say it, but it has a Stepford-Wife-esque feel to it. They are always nice, nice to each other, and only the babies seem to ever cry. The kids are like totally isolated from the larger world, certainly from the culture. I've always wondered what kids raised that way deal with as they cope with entering the 'real' world. The ones that actually do go out into the world.
Maybe the reason the kids are always so perfect, is that they always have kids around to play with. I'm sure that the older kids distract them whenever the younger ones squabble, or not share, or otherwise not get along.
With all this in mind, the poster is pretty funny.

Debbie,
I agree with a lot of the things you said in your post. I have to wonder how the children actually cope with being part of such a large family. In the shows I've watched it seems to me that the older children are the ones that are the "parents" to the middle children because the real parents are busy with the smaller children. I can't imagine how hard it would be growing up in a family like that. It does seem that the older children are almost brainwashed. I do wonder how they fare once they get out into the "real world"....these children seem like they lead such a sheltered life....
Here is their family's website....

I wonder if they meant "Ginger" but spelled it that way to keep the "J" theme going. (Someone should tell them there are 25 other letters that need love... :smlove2: )
