I can definently relate to Mike. I interest of fairness, I'd be interested in hearing why certain schools (only 1, I think), Columbia...would not want to interview the applicants. No upside to that, other than a saving a day or two of time every year.

Agree. Many people look terrific on paper....get some test scores and suck up for a few glowing LOR's....

Some people don't look stellar on paper but a face to face may add a lot.

I am curious as to why the question was asked. Does the OP which to respond?

I can tell more about a person and their aptitude for a career in anesthesia in a five minute discussion than looking a mounds of paperwork. An interview should be required.

Came across a blog that mentioned such thing. Since I never heard of it before, got curious. What kind of school would not want to see faces of potential students?

I hate to say it, but does anyone think it's a possibility that Columbia doesn't interview applicants because they don't receive enough applications to even warrant an interview? It's one of the most expensive programs in the nation, and located in the most expensive city in the nation. Furthermore their clinical sites seem to me all throughout the tri-state area; not just in NYC, so commuting would be a challenge. They also have a couple specific program pre-requisites, such as physics and o-chem.

I'm sure all of Columbia's students are talented and bright and receive a good education -- it just seems like all of the above would contribute to a very limited applicant pool. Just a thought.

even ONE applicant should warrant a face to face interview.

This boggles my mind. I wonder what their attrition rate is...

Their attrition rate is 8% over the last 5 years.

Congrats on Samuel Merrit BTW! I hear it's a great program. I have spoken to students there. They loved it! I'll be going to "that" school...Columbia. No haters please!

Thanks! Still feels surreal at this point. And congrats to you on your admission to Columbia!
