Is it customary to send a thank you email or letter after an interview?

Do you feel thankful?
I thought sending an email would be nice, but my sister said I should have sent a handwritten note to each person.
Even though I suppose she's right that handwritten notes have the most personal touch and show a lot of class, I went with email and very sincere sentiments.

I always send a thank you letter ASAP. When I got my first ICU job, my nurse manager said that's why he picked me over the other applicants, which none of the others did. So I know it works at least sometimes.

Send at least one letter addressed to those who interviewed you.

Yes! I sent one to each of my interviewers, both for my CRNA school interview, ICU interview, and my undergrad interview. It hasn't failed me so far!
Anything you can do to make yourself stand out more than the other applicants in a positive way is a huge benefit.
